Just this last week, Toyota and Salesforce announced a strategic alliance, which has resulted in a private social network called Toyota Friend. Through Salesforce Chatter, the Toyota customers who own electric cars or plug-in hybrids, can be connected to their dealership, their car and Toyota itself.
This ground-breaking technology advantages the customers as they will be kept updated regarding their car's service information and maintenance needs. Through Toyota Friend customers will be alerted when, for example, their battery runs low. This service will also be available through smart phones, tablet PCs and other mobile devices and can be extended to family and friends via other social networks such as Twitter and Facebook, to further convenience the customer.
Toyota Motor Corporation's CEO Akio Toyoda has said, “Social networking services are transforming human interaction and modes of communication. The automobile needs to evolve in step with that transformation.” With this alliance, Salesforce is truly bringing the auto industry into future and illustrating the adaptability of cloud technology.
